Catholic S: I went to confession but I sinned after a few days, I went to confession again but I sinned again, what’s the point? I might just wait until I’m on my deathbed then all my sins will be forgiven in one go!
Catholic B: Maybe so, but you may die in an accident, you may pass away in your sleep, you are risking your own soul! What is more, you may have your confession before your last breath through God’s mercy, but the reparation you need to make for the sins committed during your lifetime will need to be made in Purgatory, that can be for a very very long time. Is it worth it? You also need to bear in mind that Satan NEVER wants you to go to confession, he will try all sorts to pull you away from this Sacrament. You know, each time you confessed with a humble contrite heart and firm purpose to amend your life, you will received more strength and grace to combat with the devil and easier to resist temptations. Do not be disheartened that you sinned over and over again, because as long as you are still on this earth, God’s boundless Love will always be waiting and welcome you back into His Fatherly embrace. He has not abandoned you, so be brave and do not give up! St. John Bosco has left us some useful advice: “The strongest, most effective means to avoid repeating sin is to carry out your confessor’s suggestions...what he tells you in confession always carefully fits your spiritual needs. My dear sons, St. Philip Neri made many saints by such advice. Who knows? If we carry it out, we too may have the good fortune of becoming not only good, but even holy.”
