Bishop Mark O’Toole Installed as the 8th new Archbishop of Cardiff Appointed by Pope Francis, the ceremony took place on 20 June at St David’s Cathedral. He said in his homily: “...I have been delighted to hear that since I came to Wales, Wales aspires to be the first Nation of Sanctuary. This is an expres-sion of the love of God, too, manifested in the love that the people of Wales have for men, women and children from all over the world who have been forced to flee their homes. I am so grateful for the presence of some of our ecu-menical and civic leaders here today. With our inter-faith partners, and with all people of good-will, we want to work together, even in little or small ways, to build up places of sanctuary in our churches and in our communities.“

Please find attached a document entitled “Honouring Sunday” which was produced at the meeting of the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales held in Leeds this week. The document was originally conceived to mark the official re-opening of our churches for ‘normal’ worship as the pandemic came to an end. As we know, we are being warned of ominous signs of a resurgence. The document is therefore a little more tentative than originally planned. Nonetheless, it remains an invitation at the beginning of Advent to “Come Home for Christmas” or Welcome Home” or “The Light Is On For You” which we discussed as invitations for Advent and beyond. The listening process being commenced during Advent as part of the preparation for the synod could also be an element in this welcome. +George Stack Archbishop of Cardiff VIEW THE DOCUMENT HERE
