Catholic D: Could you explain how Mary remains a virgin since she did bear Jesus in her womb and gave birth to Him?
Catholic B: Let me share with you what Our Lord has told St Bridget of Sweden in one of the Revelations: "…I assumed flesh without sin and concupiscence, by entering the womb of the Virgin like the sun shining through the clearest gem. For just as the sun does not damage the glass by entering it, likewise the virginity of the Virgin was not lost when I assumed Manhood." In another Revelation, the Blessed Virgin also told St Bridget: "And when I had him in my womb, I bore him without pain, without any weight or feeling of inconvenience… And when I brought him forth, I brought him forth without pain and sin, as I conceived him, with such exultation of soul and body, that for exultation my feet did not feel the ground they stood upon...he came forth, my virginity untouched." This is also supported by the Visions of Bl Anne Catherine Emmerich: "He (Joseph) saw the cave filled with the light that streamed from Mary, for she was entirely enveloped as if by flames. It was as if he were, like Moses, looking into the burning bush...The glory around Mary became brighter and brighter, the lamps that Joseph had lit were no longer to be seen. Mary knelt, her flowing white robe spread out before her. At the twelfth hour, her prayer became ecstatic, and I saw her raised so far above the ground that one could see it beneath her. Her hands were crossed upon her breast, and the light around her grew even more resplendent. I no longer saw the roof of the cave. Above Mary stretched a pathway of light up to Heaven, in which pathway it seemed as if one light came forth from another, as if one figure dissolved into another, and from these different spheres of light other heavenly figures issued. Mary continued in prayer, her eyes bent low upon the ground. At that moment she gave birth to the Infant Jesus." I hope these heavenly revelations will help you to understand and marvel at God's greatness. As Jesus said in the Bible: "For men this is impossible; for God everything is possible." And we can undoubtedly praise Mary as 'the most blessed and most glorious Mary ever-Virgin'!
